The Parent Support Group

The Parent Support Group (PSG) is an important part of Sharjah English School. The School is a non-profit making organisation and therefore the PSG attempts to raise extra funds, which will directly benefit the children and the school.

We are not involved in the running of the school or school policies and our principal objective is fund raising and encouraging a community spirit.

The PSG consists of a group of parents who have children at the school and a little time to spare. We meet weekly in the school at 8am on Mondays (8:30 am during Ramadan). The meetings usually last about one hour and there is a steady flow of tea, coffee, cakes, ideas and thoughts on how to raise further funds for the school and also how to best spend the money that we have previously raised.

One of the main fund raising events for the PSG is the annual Christmas Fayre. We have had fantastic support from some regular sponsors and we are always very pleased to welcome new sponsors. We also try to organize a parents' social evening at some time during the year. Previous events have been dinner-dances, racing night at Nad Al Sheba, and quiz nights. The International Picnic is another well-established part of the calendar. Last year also saw our first SES Golf Competition.

PSG supports a number of pupil events in the school – we fund parties for Primary students at end of year and before Christmas.

In previous years the PSG has raised a considerable amount of money, which has been put to very good use for the benefit of the children and the school in general. Some of the projects which have been undertaken with the PSG funds have been the extensive shading/pergola, much of the ICT equipment, digital cameras and the purchase of PE equipment and music / sound systems. Most recently we have purchased additional Interactive White Boards, substantial trellis tables and storage trolleys.

Any parent with new ideas to contribute or time available is very welcome to join us any Monday.
