The Parent Support Group

The Parent Support Group (PSG) is a vital part of the Sharjah English School community. As the school is a non-profit making organisation, the PSG attempts to raise additional funds, which will directly benefit the children and the school.

The PSG consists of a group of parents who have children at the school and a little time to spare. We meet weekly with the Principal in the Secondary Staffroom at 8am on Mondays. The meetings usually last about one hour and there is a steady flow of tea, coffee, cakes, ideas and thoughts on how to raise further funds for the school and also how to best spend the money that we have previously raised.

One of the main fund raising events for the PSG is the annual Winter Fayre. We have had fantastic support from some regular sponsors and we are always very pleased to welcome new sponsors. The Fayre is being held this year on Friday the 11th December.

The International Picnic is another well-established part of the calendar, and the last three years have also seen our SES Golf Competition become a popular event. Other social events are organised on a regular basis.

PSG supports a number of pupil events in the school – we fund parties for Primary students at end of year and before Christmas, and the PSG is on hand to provide refreshments at shows, concerts and sports events.

In previous years the PSG has raised a considerable amount of money, which has been put to very good use for the benefit of the children and the school in general. Some of the past projects which have been undertaken with PSG funds have been the installation of an updated Wi-Fi system throughout the school, extensive shading/pergolas, new ICT equipment, digital cameras and the purchase of PE equipment and music / sound systems. More recently we have purchased additional Interactive White Boards, substantial trellis tables and storage trolleys. The playground equipment installed between the Performing Arts Building and the Primary was purchased with PSG funds.

Our priorities at the moment include raising funds for shading at the swimming pool, enhancements to the auditorium equipment and assisting with the purchase of a school management system which will include a helpful parent portal.

We are not involved in the running of the school or school policies and our main objectives are fund-raising and encouraging a community spirit.

If you are a parent with new ideas to contribute or time available (however limited) please do join us any Monday!
