Parent Support Group

Welcome to prospective parents, newly joined parents and existing parents.

The Parent Support Group (PSG) is a vital part of the Sharjah English School community, and our main objective is to encourage community spirit and offer our support to the school, parents and our children of course.

Our parents volunteer work throughout the year to enhance communication efficiency between all stakeholders, facilitate integration of new families and organise events to unite everybody within one community. All parents are invited to get involved with the PSG and the new ideas, skills and outlook they bring are vital for us.

Also, as parents, volunteering with the PSG is an ideal way to feel more engaged with the school and the sense of satisfaction that it gives is palpable. Parents over the years have also always commented on the pride that their own children felt about their parents’ involvement and presence.

What events are organised by PSG?

Pre-Covid year was our busiest to date as we organised major whole school events. Among others, the Winter Fayre and the International Picnic are traditionally our biggest and most popular events. They both require a substantial number of parent volunteers who wholeheartedly give the children each year the experience of a lifetime. This hard work always pays off with the memories our children create of their own community. My own children have always ended up getting involved themselves and looking forward to that sense of belonging. After all we all know that “It takes a village to raise a child”. Moreover, the atmosphere at these events is rightly celebrated for the way in which it promotes the school’s inclusive and international family. These are occasions that further strengthen the sense of community spirit for which Sharjah English School is so well known.

We also offer support for many other events, such as parties for Primary students, the student flea market, school productions and the Secondary Awards evening.

In summary, our primary focus is on community building.

How are PSG funds used?

These events do generate funds which will be used to plan and set up various other events. Any surplus funds are donated back to the school in support of various projects. Recent projects supported through PSG funds have included the purchase of a laser cutter machine for the Design Technology program in secondary and the installation of specialized computers for the Music department. Previously we have also funded the shading for the swimming pool and playground equipment.

When do we meet?

All parents are welcome to attend our weekly PSG meetings (approximately one hour) held at school. If you can’t attend the meetings, you are welcome to help with projects in other ways. New parents and new ideas are always welcome! No one can do everything, but everyone can do something.

How can I volunteer?

Volunteering with PSG is a wonderful way to get to know other parents and school staff.
