Parent Support Group
The Parent Support Group
The Parent Support Group (PSG) is a vital part of the Sharjah English School community, and our main objective is encouraging community spirit. All parents are invited to get involved with the PSG; it is an ideal way for parents to feel more engaged with the school and the sense of satisfaction that gives is palpable. We always welcome new ideas and new volunteers.
What events are organised by PSG?
The Winter Fayre and the International Picnic are the two major events held each year. Parents, students and staff are active participants in these events, which both attract huge support. The atmosphere at the events is rightly celebrated for the way in which it promotes the school’s inclusive and international family. They are occasions that further strengthen the sense of community spirit for which Sharjah English School is well known.
Another popular event is the Golf Competition, which is held annually during the second term and provides a fun afternoon for students, parents and staff.
These lively events all raise funds that directly benefit the students and the school.
We also offer support for many other events, such as parties for Primary students, the student flea market, school productions and the Secondary Awards evening. We are not involved in the running of the school or school policies. Our focus is on community building.
How are PSG funds used?
Some of the recent projects supported through PSG funds are the installation of an updated Wi-Fi system throughout the school, shading for the swimming pool, playground equipment, new ICT equipment, digital cameras, PE equipment, music/sound systems, interactive white boards, substantial gazebos and trellis tables etc.
When are PSG meetings held?
All parents are welcome to attend PSG meetings, which are held on Mondays at 8 a.m. upstairs in the Arts Building staff room. Meetings last approximately one hour. If you can’t attend the meetings, you are welcome to help out with projects in other ways. New parents and new ideas are always welcome! No one can do everything, but everyone can do something. If you have talents you would like to share, please let us know.
How can I volunteer?
Volunteering with PSG is a wonderful way to get to know other parents and school staff. For more information, email email@example.com or firstname.lastname@example.org, join our private Facebook group at https://www.facebook.com/groups/sesparentsupportgroup/.
Alternatively you are always welcome to attend a Monday morning meeting.
