Principal at Sharjah English School

The staff and I would like to offer you a very warm welcome to our Open Day. We are excited to help you learn more about our school, its 48 year history, its achievements and what it might have to offer you as a parent or student.

Our 'not-for-profit' status allows us to focus on continual improvement where all profits are reinvested into the school and staff for the benefit of the students. We provide children with an excellent education in a caring and enriching environment. People familiar with the school would point to its inclusive, community ethos and its happy working atmosphere as its chief characteristics.

Shiobhain Brady

Head of Primary at Sharjah English School

The Primary and Foundation Stage team look forward to meeting you at the SES Open Day to help you experience the first Curiosity Approach accredited school in the UAE and help you make the right choice in your child’s education. Sharjah English School follows the British National Curriculum, and it provides a warm and caring environment which will support and nurture your child’s academic development, as well as helping their personal and social growth.

Our teaching staff are all British qualified teachers; who provide a consistent and purposeful environment that supports the very best of academic life, sporting achievement, social & moral responsibility and well-being.

Anthony Piper

Head of Secondary at Sharjah English School

It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to the Secondary School here at SES and the very special community that it represents.

We work hard to create a challenging, vibrant and nurturing environment that enables each child to flourish. We aim to match the expectations of good preparatory schools around the world and many of our graduating students have gained places and even scholarships at some of the top Universities in the world such as in the UK, USA, Canada and Australia.

Our teachers get to know the students they teach and use a range of engaging learning opportunities to provide work that challenges each child to think for themselves and to participate fully in co-curricular activities

Outstanding by BSO

SES has been certified as an "Outstanding" School by the BSO (British School Overseas)

"Sharjah English School is an outstanding school: it is very effective and standards across all areas are high. Students’ attainment is above what is normally expected across all phases of the school. Students are well disciplined, confident and articulate. Even the youngest students behave responsibly. The school’s senior leadership team and board of governors continually monitor and evaluate the standards at the school against external judgements. Consequently, the school has grown and developed into a school with an outstanding reputation in its community."

Learning Environment

Teachers work collaboratively to provide opportunities, both within the indoor and outdoor learning environments, for children to learn through investigative play. Teachers spend their time observing and interacting with each child, spending time in one-to-one situations enables teachers to provide personalised teaching strategies that support each child.

The learning spaces in Foundation are well resourced and planned to ensure pupils learn through personal interest. The children learn the importance of independence and how they can take charge of their own learning. Children are taught how to use resources in the classroom to further their knowledge and skills and they are able to access these resources at any time during the school day.

Success and Achievement

At SES we acknowledge that it is our responsibility to educate the whole child and that academic success, while important, is only part of what we aim for our students to achieve.

We provide a safe and supportive environment for the children to challenge themselves and take risks to develop as 21st Century learners. Not only do the children excel in academic attainment, they flourish as happy individuals; developing confidence, communication and empathy towards others, all being important skills of the SES's Learner Profile.

International Body

Our diversity is one of our greatest strengths and the many different cultures that make up our community makes SES such a special school, ensuring everyone feels a sense of belonging. We have the opportunities to celebrate many cultures and family backgrounds, and SES ensures our pupils are ready for their future wherever it may take them.

We are an inclusive school and do not discriminate against any student with learning difficulties, provided we have the support system at school necessary to best assist your child.

Top 3 in the UAE

Sharjah English School has achieved excellent academic results in GCSE's in 2022, placing us in the top three schools in the UAE. We are an academically outstanding school following the British International School system, accredited by the British Schools Overseas (BSO) Inspectorate. This means that you as parents can be safe in the knowledge that when you choose to enroll your child in SES, your child will be receiving an ‘Outstanding’ education.

Secondary Subjects

All students in Years 10 and 11 study compulsory subjects of English Language, English Literature, Mathematics and Science. In addition to these, students are able to choose a further 4 subjects from a wide range of options. This enables students to choose subjects which they enjoy, which they will succeed in, and which will help them to specialise and focus on to eventually study at A Level in Years 12 and 13 if they choose to.

- Parent of 2 children in Primary, Oct 2022

Both my children have flourished during their time at SES. They were always encouraged to be more confident in themselves, respectful to others and to always use constructive ideas to reflect their views. They love going to school every morning and appreciate the different learning opportunities/strategies offered to them over the years. They are proud to be part of SES.
