HISTORY & HERITAGE

We are proud to be one of the oldest not for profit schools in the UAE that serves families seeking a traditional British education in an international context.

Sharjah English School enjoys a long and illustrious heritage in the UAE. The original Primary school in the heart of Sharjah was opened in 1974 on land generously donated by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, member of the Federal Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah.

Our school sponsor, H.E. Ahmed Mohamad Hamad Al Midfa is hugely supportive of our school and inspires confidence in our voluntary Board of Governors and leadership team to continue to push for the highest of standards in all things.

As the reputation of the school grew amongst the expatriate community a decision was taken to open our Secondary school and relocate the Primary to a new whole school campus, also on gifted land.  This re-location to our beautiful site, close to University City on the Meliha Rd, took place in 2005.

We are proud to be one of the oldest not for profit schools in the UAE that serves families seeking a traditional British education in an international context.

As the school increased in student numbers the current site also benefited from 2 major new buildings: the Arts building in 2012 and the Acorn building in 2017.  We are investing heavily in facilities and exciting plans are in development that will benefit all students.

The whole school holds approximately 1,000 students. The phases of development have been entirely financed by the School itself, reflecting our principle as a not-for-profit organisation that re-invests all of its income back into the school for the benefit of the students.

The school remains ‘Rich in history, Future focused’ as we near our 50 year celebration in September 2024.

Our focus for the last half century has always been ‘pupils first’.  This will remain our key driver as we launch our new strategic vision - ‘A world class school embracing the dynamism of the UAE’
